SHOW-N-TELL FOR INSPIRATION

Recently while at the Attic Window Quilt Shop I saw some items that inspired me.  Vickie S. made this beautiful table runner.
This is a close up for you.  I don't know what it is, but I'm drawn to this type of pointy quilt.
Vickie also made this beautiful quilt from a panel available at the shop.
Chris said she had started this quilt years ago and finally finished it.  So cute.
Chris also made this ten minute (maybe she said one hour, I don't remember) table runner.  Wouldn't it make a lovely gift!
This is also on display at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. It is a raffle quilt. Tickets are $2 each and the proceeds go to the Tri-cities Area Habitat for Humanity.  This is sponsored by the Lighthouse Quilt Guild Community Outreach Program.

Don't

LOTS OF NEW INFORMATION

The evening group of the Quilt Block Cookbook BOM met Monday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, Vickie and Robin show us their blocks that they made during this past month.
The block they will be working on this month is Sun Kissed, recipe No. 24.

This block has eight outside pointy blocks, and the book instructs you to paper piece them.  You might want to try this handy Creative Grids tool instead.  It is the Strippy Stars Tool and allows you to strip piece these blocks.  And for future projects, it allows you to make these star points in 8 different sizes!  You can get your tool at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

News:  The evening group has been meeting for the past year and this was our final meeting.  The day time group has elected to continue meeting and make more blocks.  If you would like to participate please feel free to join the day time group. OR you can participate as a "pick up."  This means you can pick up your kit each month any time after the fourth Wednesday of the month.  HOWEVER, you will need to pay in advance so that we know how many kits to cut.  It is not fair to Cathy and I to spend our time making kits, only to have them stare back at us month after month because no one has picked them up.  Also, it is not fair to the Shop to cut into fabric that is never used.  What a waste!  So please, just pay in advance.  For instance, the month that you pick up your block, pay in advance for the next month's block. If you do this each time, we will know exactly how many kits we should make available.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP
  • Several wonderful quilters have donated scraps to the shop, hoping that maybe the Charity group could use them.  What the Charity group really needs is batting.  So your scraps are being bagged and sold to customers.  ALL of the money made from these bags of scraps goes to the Charity group to purchase batting.  Check out these big bags the next time you are in the shop.  Maybe you could use some scraps.
  • The shop will return to Fall hours on September 1.  Friday, 10-6; Saturday, 10-5.

QAYG CLASS AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

There was a Quilt As You Go class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last week.  Above Susanne and Pat get started on their project.
Pat decides which strip of fabric to use next.
Susanne chose batiks to work with.
Above, Pat and Susanne show us their projects.  They still need to bind them, but that afternoon they were able to get one place mat finished in class.  What a fun class.
I showed them this, and...
 this, and
 this, and
this, to help them see that QAYG is not limiting.  What a fun group. I hope they are inspired to continue with other QAYG projects.

COOKBOOK BOM MEETS AT ATTIC WINDOW

The Quilt Block Cookbook BOM met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. The block the women made this past month is Trading Post.
More show their works.
Marjorie, who lives in Utah, has been following along with us.  Above are her most recent blocks.
It's so fun to see that readers in other areas are following along with us.
This month the group will be making this block.  It is Sun Kissed from the Quilt Block Cookbook.
Instead of paper piecing those eight outside pointy blocks, you might want to try this handy Creative Grids tool.  It is the Strippy Stars Tool and allows you to strip piece these blocks.  And for future projects, it allows you to make these star points in 8 different sizes!  You can get your tool at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

This group has been meeting for the past year.  Some members would like to continue as their are a lot more blocks in the book.  We still have room for two more if anyone is interested in participating in this fun group.  Just call the shop and register.  We meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 11 a.m.

ATTIC WINDOW HAS A QUEEN!

Karen was Queen of the Bees In The Attic Bee Hive when they met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

These are the blocks she asked us to make for her.  As you can tell, some of the little Bees were busy this morning and didn't make it to our meeting.  I hope we get to see this quilt when it is complete!
Charity will be the Queen next month.  She distributed kits with fabric and instructions.  She is holding up a sample of the block we are to make.
We need to add the flower fabric.
She has asked us to use bright fabrics.
We had a little show-n-tell too.  Above Cathy shows us her quilt.  Last month when she was Queen, we gave her blocks to make this quilt.  You can see and read about it here.
This is the back of the quilt.  Cathy used our little pieces left over from our blocks to make the pinwheels.  She used the Quilt As You Go Method for quilting this quilt.  She left one seam open to show us how she did it.  Great job, Cathy!  She must have really worked day and night to put this King Size quilt together and quilted in just a month.

A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME IT IS COFFEE TIME!

I worked on this little mug rug this weekend.  I love mug rugs. I like them to protect my burl wood tables.  I like them for the color they add to the room.  Most of all...I like them because they hide the dust.  This pattern is from the book Learn To Make Quilted Mug Rugs.  Now to sandwich and quilt this little mug rug.

A GAL WITH A KIND HEART

While at Happy Scrappers at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last week, Jill stopped by and showed us this pillow she made.  She said a friend whose husband had recently died, asked her to make a pillow out of one of his shirts. So this is what Jill came up with.
This is a closeup of the pillow.  Jill said she is making a cover for the pillow so you will see that at the  neckline of the shirt.  This is such a clever idea!
Jill and her daughter recently vacationed in Argentina.  Jill brought back this beautiful bag which I had to show you.  She said that in a certain section of the town the people painted their houses all these pretty colors.  I bet that was awesome.  Thanks, Jill, for sharing with us.

ANOTHER PERFECT DAY

We had another perfect day when the Happy Scrappers met Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, Marti shows us the cooling neck scarf that she made.  I love the fabric she chose for her scarf.  Marti said in the past she has purchased over a dozen of these and it is nice that she can now make her own.  A reader recently asked where you get the cooling beads.  Cathy is the one who found them for us.  She said you can find them in the flower section of craft stores or in the garden center at home improvement centers.  They are very tiny before you pump them up with water.  Cathy said that after we make our scarf we should put it in the refrigerator in a zip lock bag when not wearing the scarf.  If the beads return to solid form you just soak your scarf in water to reconstitute the beads.
The rest of the day Marti worked on this adorable baby quilt that she is making for charity.  The fabric is so cute.  The red has paw prints on it and the pink has little bears.
Lee Anne continued working on her charity quilt using these beautiful charm squares.  Hope to get a picture when it is finished.
I worked on making five more of these "Z" blocks.  Now I'm trying to decide if I want sashings between the blocks or what?  Any suggestions?
I also worked on these little bows for a Christmas table runner.  This is from the book Angles With Ease 2.

LEARNING, SEWING, SOCIALIZING: A PERFECT DAY!

There was a lot of learning and sewing going on when the Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Wednesday.  Above Marilyn graciously models a cooling neck scarf that we made.
First we had to sew the tube and turn it inside out.
Above teacher Cathy, instructs Val on how to cut the ends of the scarf.
Then they filled Val's tube with the cooling beads.
This is a close up of them pouring those slippery beads into the tube.
Val and I model our new cooling scarves.  Mine is going to my DIL.
After that, Marilyn shows how to use a new tool.
When I saw this block that Marilyn made, I knew I had to get that tool and make some of these.
This is the tool from Creative Grids.  When you are making lots of these blocks, this tool helps you to strip piece.  You gotta see it to know what I mean.
After all that learning, we got down to the business of sewing.  Lee Anne is starting another charity quilt using these beautiful charm squares.
Mary is working on a quilt for charity too.  She is using her 30's fabrics.
Above Cathy is putting much thought into her table runner.
Here it is all finished.
I love this fabric with the ants and watermelon.  Good job Cathy!

A special thanks to Marilyn and Cathy for giving of your time to teach us today!
