A LITTLE SHOW AND SHARE

Last week as I was entering the Attic Window Quilt Shop, I saw that the Tuesday Bee had ended.  I quickly accosted Gerry as she was leaving. I knew she would have something to show us.  She graciously dug through her bag and showed me this long strip that she had pieced.  As always, I'm amazed at Gerry's piecing skills.
This is a close up of the strip.  Gerry said that each little square in the four patch finishes at 1/2".  This is her first strip.  She needs to make more and each strip will have a 5" sashing between it.  She said that she needs 444 four patches to make the quilt!  Yikes!  I wish I had her patience and focus and piecing skills!  I always love seeing Gerry's work.
Pat A.  also stopped by the shop that day.  I think she was looking for some backing.  When I saw this Jar quilt I had to get a picture.
This is a close up of some of the jars.  I bet she had fun looking for all these wonderful fabrics in the jars.

JILL AND MEGAN HAVE BEEN BUSY

Recently while at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, Jill showed us her latest finish.  She made this beautiful quilt while taking a bargello class at the shop from Vickie S.  I love these colors.
Above is a close up and a view of the backing fabric.  Beautiful.
Jill's daughter Megan has been busy too.  Above is the Jelly Roll Inspiration quilt that Megan made.  Jill said that Megan wasn't thrilled about the fabric when she started it, but as the quilt grew, she loved it.  I do too.  The pattern is from a book by the same name by Pam and Nicky Lintatt.
Remember this quilt that Megan made?  I talked about it here.  I thought you'd like to see it with this teal border.  That border really makes those fabrics pop.
There were so many fabrics leftover from that previous quilt, that Megan decided to make a smaller one.  She quilted this one herself!  Wonderful!
Megan also made this adorable pincushion.  The pattern is from Beyond Neutral.  Such talent for being so young.

NEW FABRICS AND A THOUGHTFUL GIFT

When I was at the Attic Window Quilt Shop yesterday I saw that Chris was placing new bolts of fabric on the shelves.  I had to get a picture of these luscious fabrics.  Above is Tango by Kanvas.
The above fabrics are also by Kanvas.  Winter Novelties III is on the left and Peppermint Twist is on the right.  Time to get started on items for Christmas!
Above, Barb and Lynn check out the new shop.  If you haven't stopped by to see what everyone is talking about, be sure and do so soon.  You will be amazed!
I want to show you the surprise I received from Barb.  When she stopped by to see the new shop, she had intended to leave this for me, but I was there.  Barb gave me a lovely gift bag with the above inside.  She knows how I love kittens.  And she made this adorable needle holder for me.

This is a close up of the beautiful stitching on the needle holder.  I love it and it couldn't have come at a better time.  Not only has it lifted my spirits during this sad time for me, but it means so much to me that my quilting friends understand and care. Also, I was using a scrap piece of fabric to hold my needles.  Isn't this much classier?   Barb you are a special quilting friend and I thank you so much for your kindness.  Every time I use this I will think of you, a dear quilting friend.

MOD SQUAD MEETS AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

The Mod Squad meet Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I have to show you this picture of Rosa.  Can you guess why?
Did you look at the size of the coffee cup she has in her arms?  Yikes!  I wonder if drinking all that coffee is what keeps her (and for some reason us) giggling all day while we quilt.  We sure do have lots of fun.  My coffee cup on the left looks kind of puny.  I was thinking of getting a bigger cup, but frankly, my sides all ready hurt at the end of the day from laughing so much, so I think I'll just stay with my small one.
So, down to business.  Today Diana agreed to teach us how to make her modern paper pieced block. Diana is an excellent teacher and I can see why she is so in demand at the shop.  Her instructions are clear, and she makes sure we have all the necessary items to make our project.  And she is patient!  Most of us had a little difficulty with paper piecing and I think it is safe to say that we all appreciated her patience with us.
Above is the block that Diana drafted for us.  She calls it Wonky Flying Geese.  We could make it in the 12" block on the right, or make four of the smaller blocks to achieve a 12" block.
Diana has a great method of teaching paper piecing.  This method eliminates all that waste.  Who wants to waste fabric?
Cathy chose to make the larger block.  She was the first one finished.  Looks great!
Cathy also had her most recent project to show us.  The pattern is Spiraled Underground and you can see the tutorial at A Quilter's Table.  I want to make this!
Adrienne was next to have her block finished .  She did not want to do paper piecing, but we talked her into it.  She did a great job!
This block is mine.  Looks kind of bleak to me, but maybe when it goes into the quilt it will look batter.
Rosa is the only one who chose to make the smaller block.  She said she will use a different background in each of next three blocks.  I can't wait to see how this turns out.  I was thinking, wouldn't a small block like this make a great hot pad or mug rug?

We all had lots of fun and learned a lot too.  A special thank you to Diana for being such a great teacher for us.

THIS WILL MAKE A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT!

Isn't this coin purse darling!!!!  Misti sent the picture to me.  She said she "made this for Stacie my son's girlfriend.  She goes to Baker College but loves Michigan State football.  She has a lot of State garb too.  She is going into the medical field."

Thank you Misti for sending this picture.  I now know what I will be making for my granddaughter who graduated from Michigan State and is in the Medical field.  I have some fabrics left over from when I made my grandson a quilt last year and I have an extra frame, so it looks like it was meant to be.  Can't wait to  get started on it.

PILLOWCASES FOR CHARITY

The Scrapper's Schoolhouse met this past Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I was out of town and hoping someone would send me pictures.  Guess everyone was busy sewing and having a good time.  It really is a fun group so I know that is true.  I made the above pillowcase and dropped it off at the shop before I left.  I rather like it because the cuff is "made fabric" from my pile of red scraps.
I understand there was a guest speaker on Saturday.  Rosa had asked a woman from Hospice to join the group and explain the needs of her Hospice center.  Rosa has asked me to put the word out that there is a need for red, white, and blue fabrics or patriotic fabric as the women are going to make pillowcases for the veterans in Hospice.  Please feel free to drop your donated fabrics off at the shop and if you would like, join us when we will again meet on September 26 and make these pillowcases.

I BET YOU COULDN'T DO THIS!

Jill’s daughter Megan came to the Attic Window Quilt Shop last Thursday to help during Quilt Week.  While there she picked out fabric and had this quilt made by Friday.  Talk about fast!  Wow!  Megan is such a cutie and I love it when young women are interested in quilting.  I understand that later Megan added a lovely teal border to the quilt.  Diana, who took the pictures and sent them to me, said that Megan used the leftovers from this quilt to make a miniature version for the shop!  Look for it the next time you visit the shop.  Maybe it will be back from the quilter by then..
The pattern for Megan’s quilt can be found in this book.

A very special thank you to Diana for sending the pictures.  I love it when people send me pictures.  That way I can keep up with what’s happening at the Attic Window too.

THIS SHOULD GET YOU MOTIVATED

What motivates you?  Seeing these darling bags that Misti made has motivated me.  Misti has been busy making lots of bags as gifts.  Her picture of these bags has motivated me to get started making my Christmas gifts.  What female, young or old, could resist one of these.  I was thinking if in the right fabrics, a man would like one too.  Thanks Misti for being my motivation for today.  I'm off to my sewing room.

How about you?  Are you motivated?

GOT SCRAPS?

Remember all those scraps that Vickie S. brought in to Happy Scrappers when they met last week at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?  I grabbed a bunch of them and made this quilt which I will give to the First Monday Charity group.
This is a close up so you can see the quilting designed I used.
And this is the backing and binding.  I think it turned out pretty cute for being a scrap quilt!  You can always donate your scraps to the various groups at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  There is a charity group that meets the first Monday of the month, and the Scrappers Schoolhouse meets the fourth Saturday of the month.  These groups are busy making quilts and pillowcases for charity.  I'm sure they would appreciate your scraps.

HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE NEW SHOP?

Have you been in to visit the new Attic Window Quilt Shop.  The new location is just a few steps away from where the shop used to be. Instead of turning left when you come into the drive off Alpine, you turn right and go towards the Goodwill shop.  The address is 5363 Alpine NW, Comstock Park, MI 49321.
This is a picture that I took the other day, however, now when you visit you will see quilt samples on the walls.
In the class room is this cute little display of samples and notions.  You can see more pictures of the new shop by going here.

Hope to see you soon!

OH WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH A FEW SCRAPS

The Happy Scrappers met again Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  We got out the tub of scraps that Vickie S. donated last week and also went through that tub and other bags of scraps that the women donated.  Above Diana is going through some of the scraps.
That Diana is so clever.  She sorted the scraps by color.  I love that she did this as some of us were thinking of using these to do some improv piecing for the Scrappers School House pillowcases.  The Scrappers School House meets on Saturday, August 22.  Come and join us in making pillowcases which will be donated to a worthy cause.
What a trooper that Diana is!  She even ironed all the scraps for us so we can get down to the business of sewing!

Are you ready to make some pillowcases?

ROW BY ROW WINNER

Above is Jackie Huizen who is the winner of the Attic Window Quilt Shop’s Row By Row Experience.  Jackie created the above quilt by collecting rows from the various participating shops.  Isn’t it lovely! You can see it when you stop in at the shop as it is hanging on the wall there.

Are you participating in the Row By Row Experience?  Between June 21 and September 8, you can collect at least eight different 2015 rows from eight different 2015 participating Row By Row shops.  The first person to bring in a completed quilt using the above eight rows and bring it in to a participating shop can win a stack of 25 fat quarters.  You must use that shop’s row in your quilt to win a bonus prize.  You have until Oct. 31, 2015 to bring your completed quilt to a participating shop.  However, only one winner per shop.  Jackie is the first to bring in her finished quilt, so she is the Attic Window Quilt Shop’s winner!

Check out the Row By Row Experience here.  You can still be a winner.

QUILTING FRIENDS ARE THE BEST!

I have said "Quilters are the best!"  Above is just another example of how caring quilters are.  Lynn who owns the Alamosa Quilter blog, which is on my sidebar, sent this to me.  She said that since she doesn't live close enough (she lives in Colorado) to give me a hug, that she wanted to send me some cheer.  I am overwhelmed by this lovely little pouch, needle carrier and rope bowl.  The card is beautiful too!
I have been admiring the rope bowls that Lynn has been showing on her blog and told her I wished I lived closer so I could take her class.  This is a small one, just the right size for sewing things like buttons, gadgets, candy...of course candy! The on thing I noticed was how sturdy the bowl is.  I had no idea!  The little needle carrier is clever too and will be so handy.  I don't know how she made it.
I think I've mentioned before about my love of bags and this little bag is so cute and just the right size to carry my pink rotary cutter.

Lynn,, thank you so much.  Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.  You are the best!

HAVE YOU TAKEN A CLASS FROM VICKIE STARK?

That Vickie S. has really been busy.  When I went to the Attic Window Quilt Shop the other day I drooled over the above and discovered that Vickie made it as a sample for the shop.  I asked her if she was going to teach a class and she said, "If anyone is interested."
In fact, there are other table runners that she made and are on display at the shop.  These are from the Stripology 2 and Stripology1Books.
I don't know if this one that Vickie also made is from one of those books or not.  I got so excited when I saw it that I forgot to ask.
This is another view of that table runner.  Isn't it stunning!
This is a wall hanging that Vickie made.  I think she was looking for binding that day that she was in at the shop.  She said she has also made this wall hanging in blues and likes it much better.  Watch for an upcoming class.

The above are also table runners/toppers that Vickie made.  That gal sure has talent!
