ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP HAS KITS!

What do you think about kitchen towels? Or do you even think about them at all? I guess I never gave it much thought until I saw this darling towel and thought to myself, why not pretty up your kitchen each month with new towels like this? The pattern is from Blooming Minds and includes several appliqué designs that you can use on towels or other projects. You can get the towels and pattern at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

It’s not to early to start thinking about those holiday projects. This Boo pattern is from Wooden Spool Designs. Kits are available at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

What kid wouldn’t love something made out of this eye-catching spider fabric. It is from Andover Fabrics The Very Series. (Also at the Attic Window Quilt Shop).

Have you ever been to Tea Rose Home’s Link Party? It is lots of fun to follow the links to the various sites and see what projects you can make. I went to see House of Grace and found some wonderful household tips. Check them out.

Don’t forget the Sand, Surf & Sunsets Quilt Show held at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Grand Haven, MI on July 30 & 31. The Attic Window Quilt Shop will be there.

SARA’S FOLLY

When I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop Saturday, I found Sarabeth Carr with this beautiful quilt. She calls it Sara’s Folly for a reason. She told me that several years ago she found pieces of fabric in an old cedar chest belonging to her mother. Some of these pieces were cut into the shape of leaves. She also found an envelope with 1934 written on it. Inside was a sketched design and directions as to how to put the quilt together. Sarabeth took those small pieces of old 30’s fabrics and made this beautiful quilt. Note: these pieces were not fused on but are turned under and hand stitched. Saturday she was looking for binding. Sarabeth’s words of wisdom: Make sure you have enough binding before you sew it onto your quilt. She was short about two feet and looking for the same fabric. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find old 30s fabrics like this? They always look so fresh and clean against a white background. Great job Sarabeth and thanks for sharing! (Click on picture for a larger/closer view)

I was also looking for fabric and found the cute owl fabric. It is What a Hoot by Exclusively Quilter.

Any child will love a quilt made with this What a Hoot fabric.

Not up to a quilt? How about making a pillowcase. These are small “camper” pillowcases. Really cute.
.
Chiseled In Cloth has some cute animal patterns. These free, easy to appliqué quilt blocks will fit comfortably on a rectangle of fabric 7.5” x 9.5”. Each of the patterns is designed with a beginner in mind. Check it out!

NEW WOOL CLASS STARTING

It is time to start a new project! Come join Glenys at the Attic Window Quilt Shop in August, and work on a 12-block wall hanging, measuring about 35 X 45. There are two patterns from which to chose. It will be easy to add borders to make a lap size throw. Each block measures 8 ½“ square. This class meets the 4th Friday of the month from 6 - 9 PM. Call the shop for details.

This block is from the second pattern availabale.

This is one of the two patterns you may choose.

This is the other pattern availabale to you.
.
Attention: I just heard of two organizations that are providing quilts for critically wounded solders in combat hospitals and on transport planes. The first is Citizen Sam.Org and the other is American Hero Quilts . These quilts are sent to Afghanistan to the critically wounded that have to be transported to Germany for further medical attention. They use them to help keep the soldiers warm while being transported in the big cargo planes. We all love to make quilts and have extra sitting around our house. Why not give brave men something to keep them warm and show they are loved.
.
On a lighter note; Cranston Village has a cute doorhanging that would be perfect for Halloween. Check it out.

MORE FIBER ARTISTS

Marg Ed made this fabric paper. I love the project, just not sure how it is done. She said she took a piece of muslin, applied glue and various weights of papers to get this wonderful effect. She said that Gail Conlan will be teaching a class on how to make fabric paper in the fall. Looks like something I’m going to want to do.

Barb made this beautiful wallhanging and entered it in the MARIE OSMOND QUILTING CHALLENGE sponsored by Janome America, Inc., Quilting Treasures, and Advantus. The contest said you had to use the Marie Osmond Quilting Treasures fabric. This picture doesn’t do it justice so….

Here is a close up of some of the detail on the project. She did a fantastic job! (You can click on the picture to get an even closer look.)

Eileen Madison made this quilt for her niece as a housewarming gift. As you can see she still has to apply the binding, but it is going to be a fantastic gift. These soft muted colors will go with any décor and something any new homeowner will be proud to own.

DO YOU HAVE THIS PATTERN?

You don’t have to sign up for this Focus Squares class to enjoy making this beautiful quilt. However, if you are lucky enough to be in our area, you can sign up for the class. It starts Tuesday, July 20th at 6 p.m. and we hope you will join Carolyn who is the pattern designer. If you can’t take the class you can purchase the pattern from the Attic Window Quilt Shop. The possibilities for the focus squares you can use in this wallhanging or quilt are endless. You can choose to fussy cut an all over fabric, or you can appliqué any design of your choice. Also you could do machine embroidery or hand embroidery. You could even use pictures for the large and small blocks. Whatever you decide, you will have a fabulous looking wallhanging or quilt that you have made your own.

There are other fun projects and classes you won’t want to miss this week at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. The Make it Take It Class on Wednesday is making that cute bumble Bee pictured above. Two sessions are being held for your convenience. Call the shop to sign up. LeeAnn is having a class on the Charm Party Tote on Friday, and Glenys is teaching the Itty Bitty Quilts class on Saturday. Again, if you have not registered for a class this week, please call the shop and do so and get your supply list so you will have all you need to make your project.

MORE FIBER ARTISTS

I have more great items to show you from the Fiber Arts group. Nancy Mercer made this beautiful wallhanging. It is made of little snippets of fabric and has a net overlay to hold it together. It is stunning!

This is a close up of Nancy’s wallhanging.

Kathy made this lovely wallhanging. Click on the picture to get a closer look and see how she did the leaves. She also did some airbrushing. Exquisite work!

Imagine little kids dressed in their Halloween costumes admiring the witch banner hanging on your door. Or imagine the happy faces when you give your children/grandchildren a special trick or treat bag made out of this Trick or Treat fabric by Exclusively Quilters. You can get this eye-catching fabric at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. The time to start thinking about those Halloween projects is now!

FIBER ARTIST SHOW AND TELL

Don’t you just love fiber artists? They can take a plain piece of fabric and make so many lovely and unique items with it. You will love the items The Lakeshore Fiber Arts group shared at a recent meeting. Dodie made this eye-catching purse. Notice the intricate beadwork and the vibrant colors.

Evey P. shared this fabric covered clothesline hot pad. She said she made it during a recent class. I’ve seen clothesline items made into bowls, and it was nice to see how thin and flat Evey made this. Click on the picture to get a closer view.

New fabrics are in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. This is Luna Blooms by Clothworks. I love these deep contrasting colors.

Molly’s Place has an excellent feathered star tutorial. You know how piecing is not my favorite thing to do but I might even try this one. Looks great!

Be sure to stop by again to see more from the Fiber Arts group.

WE HONOR THESE WOMEN

Kudos go to: Yvonne, Mary T., Fran, Joan, Mary Ellen, Barb, Lee Ann, Nancy, Mary.
.
Many thanks and much appreciation goes to the above women who work diligently each month to make quilts for those in wheel chairs. Truly, these are women of grace and charm. They contribute their time and talents to make these quilts with donated fabrics, battings, and threads. One of them said, “It’s just our way of giving back to our community.” Recently 73 of their quilts were distributed to the Michigan Veteran’s Facility, Blodget Hospital, and Mary Free Bed Hospital. The group meets the second Monday of the month at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome to join. If you would like to make a donation, please bring it to the shop. Thanks again to these very special women.
.
Mrs. Schmenkman has a fantastic butterfly block tutorial.

The Painted Quilt will have a Raggedy and Friends BOM. Look for it on her blog after July 20th.

FLOWERS FOR YOUR TABLE

Not much happening today. It’s still hot here in Michigan, and humid! Therefore, I’ve been in my sewing room in the basement trying to stay cool, and sewing. I just finished this table topper. I love a dressed table and thought this would like nice when a friend stops by for coffee or ice tea. This is an adaptation of the Basket of Flowers pattern by Mary Engelbreit for Moda. Naturally I made it out of the 30s fabrics. Not only do I love those fabrics for their clean crisp look but I have a ton in my stash and this was a great way to use them.

You can make this table topper with me during an upcoming class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Look for the new class schedule and newsletter which will be out soon.
.
Check out this great tool for calculating how much fabric you need for your binding. Try the Nifty quilt binding calculator. Wamber Whimsies blogs about it here. You can try it out here.

FABRIC, QUILTS, KITS, BOOKS, ETC.

Several interesting items were featured at the First Saturday Bee at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Above is the quilt that Cindy made. This is a sample for an upcoming class. The pattern is free with the purchase of the fabrics at the store. The fabric is from the Modern Mix line by Benartex and is called Pop Floral Cocoa/Willow.

Jeanne Bird made this beautiful quilt and brought it to show and tell. I feel so bad that the pictures isn’t clearer. I usually try to take two pictures incase I move like I did in this one, however, I didn’t want them to stand there forever with their arms in the air while I waited for my camera to reboot. Jeanne says that she made this while her father was in the hospital It was the last thing they shared. It is a beautiful quilt.

Jeanne’s pattern is from Appliqué Quilt Revival by Nancy Mahoney. It is filled with updated patterns from the 30’s. You will find it at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

Chris showed us some new kits in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. These Pillow Case kits take out all the guesswork. Kits include the pattern and the fabric is folded to give you an idea of what your pillowcase will look like. All this for only $12.

Little Miss Shabby has a great tutorial for a liberated wedding ring block

KNOTTY GIRLS ARE BEING KNOTTY AGAIN

The Knotty Girls Stitching Bee met recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and did they have a lot to share! These gals are so prolific and I couldn’t wait to show the pictures to you. Above, is a block from a crazy quilt by Bev S. Don’t you love the way she fussy cut the fabric to show the cat face.

This is a picture of the entire quilt. She said it is a crazy quilt done with Christmas fabrics.

This Hawaiian appliqué quilt is also by Bev S. These large intricately cut shapes are usually in only two or three different colors and the repeat pattern in the “snowflake” style makes them unique.

Marcy W. made this darling fish quilt. The pattern is from the Quiltmaker Magazine. She is still doing some embroidery on this one before she does any quilting.

Colleen V. made this Winter Whimsical. This design teeters somewhere between folk art and traditional, yet has a fresh style.

Barb David made this Seasonal Sampler. She said used the needleturn method for all the appliqué. I love its fresh feel of spring.

Barb also made this Blue Bird quit. The pattern is from Crab Apple Hill.

Sherrie P. made this beautiful quilt from fabrics she purchased several years ago. Don’t you love these vibrant colors.

This is just one block of a new Moda panel that is in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. It seems funny to be thinking about snowmen and Christmas when here in Michigan the weather forecasters are predicting 90 deg heat this weekend. Wow! Maybe working on this winter panel will help you to stay cool!

Above are some of the Moda Christmas fabrics in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

Also in at the shop are these Christmas fabrics are by Hoffman.

There are also new patterns in the shop that will help you get ready for the holidays. You can’t make these things overnight, you know. These patterns are part of the Long n' Lean series by Geralyn Powers. Aren’t they cute!
